Tim Keller writes in the Meaning of Marriage that the roots of human marriage are in God’s own action.  Since marriage is God’s idea we should make every effort to understand and submit to his purposes for it.  We can think of our culture’s current redefinition of marriage only in terms of the recent same sex marriage debate.  However our current understandings of marriage have long fallen far short of God’s intent.  A common one being:  A private arrangement for our own personal satisfaction.  God is calling us to reclaim and live into his purposes for this good gift we call marriage.
