The conclusion in Matthew’s Gospel speaks with clarity about Jesus and the Church’s purpose on earth. By this point, the topics of concern found throughout this Gospel (Jesus’ kingship, the role of the church, etc.) have been resolved and the readers now have answers. Christ, our righteous king, serves as our example as we strive to witness to the world. Our ability to witness is tied to our obedience to Christ, thus making us representatives of God on earth. Christ also reassures the audience of His everlasting presence. It is imperative to remember the truth of God’s presence since the pandemic may have redefined our concept of “presence.”
