We continue the sermon series, Matthew: Treasure from things new and things old.  Much of Matthew is made up of Jesus’ significant teaching discourses. However, before Jesus begins to preach and teach some key events occur.  In our focus passage we have Jesus being baptized with water and also the Spirit descending from heaven and resting on Jesus.  How important are these two events in our own lives?  I would imagine we consider our water baptisms to be very significant in our lives.  Do we hold our Spirit baptism to be as equally significant?  Romans 8:9b says: … if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
