This passage teaches us that faith alone is incomplete, as love alone is incomplete.  To follow Jesus in the “all things” of the great commission in Matthew 28 we must have faith (believe) but we also must love.  Galatians 5:6 says that what counts is faith working through love.  Having faith in Jesus and loving others are both important.  They make a complementary unity rather than a competitive conflict.
