DOING THE GOOD
The is the last sermon in our series, Titus – Good and Sound. Several times in Titus we are told to do what is good. Here at the very, very end of Titus we have again: devote yourselves to doing what is good. What is unique about this last reference is that “doing good” is unpacked or explained further.
Titus 3:14: Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unfruitful lives.
We can busy ourselves with doing lots of good things but still not be bearing the kind of fruit that God intends. In our doing good we are to work to meet pressing needs and to work for the benefit of others. As it has been said: The tree itself has no need for its fruit. In doing good may we aim not to simply be productive but truly fruitful.
