Moses represents the older generation and the Israelite people the younger generation. The first generation had passed on and this 2nd generation of God's people were poised to enter Canaan according to God's plan. God laid much on Moses' heart to pass on to this new generation. Do we today believe we have something that God wants us to pass on to our younger generations? Or do we just show them several equally good options and let them choose? Moses was crystal clear...

Fear God, walk in all His ways, love Him, serve Him with all your being, observe His commands which are for your own good.
