This is the 6^th in our “Jesus is…” series from the Gospel of John.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”  Jesus spoke the last two of his seven I AM sayings in private.  John transitions from public ministry to private in the last verses of chapter 12.  Chapters 13-17 record this private ministry just before Jesus’ arrest.  There is much he wanted to make clear to his inner circle of disciples.  Not only did the crowds need to know who Jesus was but so did his closest followers.  The disciples ask good questions but are seeking the answers in all the wrong places.  Philip wanted to see the Father.  Nothing wrong with that certainly.  But Philip needed to realize that he had been knowing and seeing the Father in knowing and seeing Jesus.  May God’s Spirit open our eyes and hearts as well.
