ON THE ROAD TO REPENTANCE
On this 2nd Sunday of Advent we continue our series, “On the road…” Mark is likely the earliest attempt to arrange the stories and good news of Jesus into a collected whole. It is noteworthy that this gospel account begins with a clear call to repent through the “voice of one calling in the wilderness.” Just a very few verses later Jesus also picks up the call to repent as He announces the Kingdom coming near. And throughout the entire New Testament the call to repent echoes again and again. We don’t have John’s voice with us any longer but we do have another voice calling. Mark 1:8 reads… I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Today, do we hear the Holy Spirit’s voice calling, “The Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news” ?
