PRAYER – FREQUENT BUT FEW
This message will be the last in a series of five. The series title “Devote yourselves to prayer” is taken from Colossians 4:2.
So far we have seen:
- Prayer is petition
- Prayer is perspective
- Prayer is partnership
- Prayer is simple
- Prayer is honest
- Prayer is intercession
- Prayer is confession
Our focus this week will be the model prayer Jesus gave to us in Matthew 6. In it we see prayer is intimate (Our Father…), prayer is expectation (Your kingdom come and will be done), prayer is daily (Give us today our daily…), prayer is plural (Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors), and prayer is protection (lead us not into temptation but deliver us…). Pagan prayer seem to include many words (v. 7). This prayer shows us in very few words how powerful a God’s praying people can be.
