REMAINING FAITHFUL IN THE DELAY

Preacher:
Passage: Luke 18:1-14
Service Type:
We are continuing our sermon series of the parables of Jesus.  Through these parables we are awakened to the Kingdom that Jesus brings.  Though begun already, Jesus will fulfill His kingdom at His return.  As this return may seem long in coming, how do we remain faithful in the meantime?  How do we live with the delay of His kingdom being fulfilled?  How do we live with the delay of unanswered prayer now?  Verse 1 makes it clear:  “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”  We are called to be persistent in prayer.  But as the next parable makes plain (vv. 9-14) we are not to become self-exalted in our praying.  All real praying starts with throwing
ourselves on the mercy of God.
