Passage: Isaiah 61:1-11
Service Type:

This is our 3rd advent Sunday.  Jesus used the words of Isaiah 61 to declare what he was called to as he began his ministry.  God calls us today to continue what Jesus started.  NIV Isaiah 61:1 … to preach good news to the poor. …to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.  And those God calls He also enables.  For this passage begins with “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me.”  The presence of God within urges and enables us to carry out his will, his agenda his way.  May it be so.
