The Blessing of an Undivided Heart

Preacher:
Passage: Matthew 19:16-30
Service Type:

This message will be the last of the series:  Seven Marks of Discipleship, the sixth being:  "All Disciples Of Jesus Follow Him With An Undivided Heart", and the seventh:  "All Disciples of Jesus Are Hope-Filled And Look Forward To What God Has Prepared".

Jesus saw into the heart of this wealthy young man (Matthew 19:16-30) as He sees into our hearts.  And by the end of their conversation He put His finger on the spot of this young man’s need.  In our own hearts what is competing with our loyalty to Jesus?  Can we pray, really pray Psalm 86:11?

Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

This passage closes with Peter asking Jesus:  We have left all to follow you… so what will be our reward?  Jesus’ forthright description is that His own will receive far and beyond anything we might have lost for the sake of following Him.  As children of God we do have much to look forward to.
