THE PLAGUE WAS STOPPED

Preacher:
Passage: 2 Samuel 24:10-25
Service Type:

With this Sunday’s sermon we conclude the series, “Looking for the True King – 1, 2 Samuel.”  The last years of King David’s reign as king of Israel were filled with difficulty.  In the closing chapters of Samuel we can think “Here we go again…”  David’s sons repeat David’s sins:  Amnon sleeps with Tamar and Absalom murders.  Also, David once again is fleeing for his life.  And then as Absalom is murdered David (as before) laments for the very one out to kill him.  But amidst all this brokenness, God (our True King) remains at work moving forward His redemptive purpose.  The very last words of the books of Samuel are:  the plague was stopped.  The site of the ending of a plague (the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite) became the site for the building of the first Temple, the house of worship for God, who never gives up on His people.
