THESE STONES WILL CRY OUT
We continue with the series, “Looking for the True King – 1, 2 Samuel.” If the people of Israel experience ups and down thru out the book of Judges then in this first part of the book of Samuel things are down, way down. Not only is the priesthood corrupt and the “word of God rare” now in chapter 5 even God Himself is actually defeated on the battlefield… or is He??? The Ark of the Covenant is captured and at this news Eli the high priest of Israel dies instantly. But the Ark’s new “home” is the temple of Dagon, the Philistine deity. It seems that the stone idol of Dagon cannot remain upright but falls over prostrate before the Ark of God. The idol Dagon simply was doing what Jesus said stone will do if human lips are silent. Luke 19:39-40 says, “Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
