This is the last of the “Basic Questions” series.  Earlier we focused on What is the Gospel? and What is discipleship?  For this Sunday….  What is the kingdom?  Misunderstandings of the kind of king that Jesus is have persisted from day one.  The first disciples have this on full display as they argue among themselves as to which of them is the greatest.  We, as Jesus’ disciples today also easily misunderstand what Jesus’ kingdom is.  We easily confuse the two kingdoms we are part of.  We can tend to merge the earthly kingdom we are part of as US citizens with God’s kingdom.  Jesus takes this time of argument and makes it a teachable moment.  Jesus says that kingdoms of this world are all about “who is the greatest” but I am among you as one who serves.  The Kingdom is that over which the Servant Spirit of Jesus is reigning. May it be so in our heart and lives.
