WHAT REALLY COUNTS

Preacher:
Passage: Matthew 26:1-13
Service Type:

With this Sunday we resume the sermon series, Matthew: Treasure from things new and things old.  At this point in Matthew’s story the choices have been made.  Some love Jesus and some hate Jesus.  In these last three chapters of Matthew we simply see the consequences of those choices play out.  By far the most consequential choice is that of Jesus Himself.  And He has chosen the cross.  Even though this woman (likely Mary of Bethany) anointed Jesus as her Messiah Jesus informs all present “she did it to prepare me for burial.”  Observers of this anointing act thought this was a foolish waste of a very expensive ointment.  But what is “thrown away” on Jesus is never wasted.  “I tell you the truth… wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
