When we light those advent candles just what is it that we are waiting for? We often look to the horizon with hopes of determining what is ahead.  There are many different visions of history and where time is headed. Some think we are on the path of inevitable progress.  Some think we are on the path of inevitable decline.  Some think history is ever circular.  Some think history is going nowhere in particular.

Though the Bible is not a history book it has a unique view of history.  The day of the Lord, Jesus' return, is coming. That is why we light our candles. That is why we light our lives.
