Williamsburg Mennonite Church is home to the Peace By Piece sewing ministry, a community of like-minded individuals with a passion for sewing, quilting, and sharing their talents with others.
Our Ministry's Focus:
The heart of our sewing ministry lies in the creation of quilts and comforters, each crafted with care and love. Our main areas of focus include:
- Children's Quilts: We create quilts specially designed for children, offering warmth, comfort, and a sense of security.
- Comfort Quilts: These are made for individuals facing medical treatments or enduring long-term illnesses. We aim to provide physical and emotional comfort during challenging times.
- MCC Relief Sale: One of our central priorities is contributing to the annual Virginia Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Relief Sale. Each year, we craft quilts to be auctioned at the sale, with the proceeds going towards MCC's vital relief and development work around the world.
- Kits for Simple Comforters: In addition to creating quilts, we assemble kits for making simple comforters. These kits allow individuals to participate in our mission from their homes.
Community Involvement:
The Peace by Piece ministry includes church members as well as ladies from the surrounding community. Throughout the year, we host "knotting party" days, where we come together to knot comforters. Knotting comforters can be learned in minutes, and working together fosters a sense of accomplishment. These events are filled with fellowship and purpose, as we diligently create comforters to be sent to MCC. The finished comforters are then distributed to people in need around the world, extending our ministry's reach far beyond our community.
Building Bonds and Faith:
When we sew together, we share more than just stitches; we exchange advice, sewing techniques, family stories, and personal testimonies of our faith journey. It's a fun and natural way to relate to women in the community and make connections while sharing our love for Jesus.
